ENCE have survived day one of ESL One New York, bouncing back from their opening series loss to G2 by handily defeating eUnited 2-0.
eUnited were looking to impress on Overpass as they took on ENCE in the Group A elimination matchup, playing only their second LAN match with Ryan "freakazoid" Abadir in tow. A strong start for the Finnish side, helped in part by a number of multi-kill rounds from Jere "sergej" Salo, ensured that eUnited looked anything but impressive, with ENCE opening the map with a 9-1 scoreline. A triple kill by Victor "food" Wong offered eUnited their second round of the series, allowing the team to begin clawing back as they reduced the deficit to 10-5 at the half.
A pistol round victory following the side swap helped Anthony "vanity" Malaspina and company close the gap even further, winning four of the first five rounds of the half for a 11-9 scoreline. A back-and-forth brawl ensued between the two sides as they traded rounds in an effort to fight for control, but it was ENCE who remained ahead despite AWP heroics by Austin "Cooper" Abadir. Just three additional rounds went the way of eUnited before the Finnish side prevailed, securing the map with a 16-12 scoreline.
Miikka "suNny" Kemppi and sergej combined to help ENCE maintain their momentum heading into their own pick of Train, taking a 3-0 lead on the offense to keep eUnited on the back foot. food helped eUnited put up three rounds in answer to even the score, but ENCE were able to reply in kind as they continued to keep the pressure on their opposition for a 6-3 scoreline. Not to be shut down entirely, Cooper and food stepped up for their side as they secured a handful of multi-kills, keeping ENCE at bay for the majority of remaining rounds in the half to narrowly pull ahead 8-7.
The swap over to the defense proved to paid dividends for ENCE as they quickly regained the lead with a trio of rounds at the start of the half, with Sami "xseveN" Laasanen locking down ivy as ENCE maintained firm control of the proceedings. eUnited managed to notch just two rounds on the offense, narrowly stealing away their first with only one man alive while their second came from a heroic 1vs4 clutch by freakazoid. The clutch was not enough to give eUnited an inroads back into the series, with ENCE making short work of the American side to claim a 16-10 map victory.
